The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

Post by Nexeria on Fri Apr 10, 2015 3:12 am

The world has fallen, and the living have become prey for the dead. All across America, we have seen the disintegration and downfall of human dominance and society: social order crumbling, infrastructure failing, and the human psyche reverting to its natural state of survival. But is all hope lost? Some say that safety lies in Nebraska. Some, in Europe. Others say that there is no hope, and that there never will be, that all is gone, and they are the only left. Many "opted-out" in the first few weeks of the apocalypse, most succumbed to the hordes of infected, but a small few were able to survive. Now, they must weather this onslaught of the undead the best they can. People will die along the way, friendships and trusts will be broken, but in the end... will it be for the greater good?

Application:
NAME:

AGE:

NATIONALITY:

RACE:

SKILLS: [Be realistic.]

WEAPONRY: [Not everyone owns a gun. This could be a pipe, if that's what your character has access to.]

VEHICLE: [Not everyone will own one.]

BIOGRAPHY: [Make it as long and detailed as you want, but make sure it backs up how you have the weapon or vehicle you do.]

APPEARANCE: [Picture preferred.]

________________________________________________________________________________________

As you can already tell, this is an RP based upon my favorite work of zombie apocalypse fiction, The Walking Dead. Our group of characters, not unlike Rick's group of survivors, will start near a city. That city will be New Orleans, Louisiana.

Now, I'm not looking for Mary-Sue's, or G.I. Joe's, or Delta Force operators, or Spetsnaz commanders, or any other kind of ubermensch character you can think up. The Walking Dead is about average people struggling and often failing, not only to survive, but to live in a world that is completely unlike the one they grew up in, and wholly indifferent to their plights. It's less about the action, and more about the interaction. Characters with substance are what I like to see, and to that end, creating a workable persona for your character should be the number one step in your creation process. On a related note, I strongly discourage creating a character that is a vehicle for your wish-fulfillment. It creates a plethora of problems later down the road, particularly when you end up at loggerheads with another RPer's character. RPer's that use these wish-fulfillment characters tend to take things personally, as a criticism of the character can be interpreted very easily as a criticism of the person upon whom the character was based. Please, nip it in the bud, and don't base your character off of yourself or your loved ones.

(Note: I copied the rules from an old forum that I was apart of. I don't care if your characters are similar to you or your loved ones, but I would highly advise all RPer's to not take things too personally if your character is criticized harshly by someone.)
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Setting

As stated above this RP will take place in the beautiful city of New Orleans. I chose this location because I remember how things were down here during Hurricane Katrina. There were many people that wouldn't leave their homes because they were either too ignorant of the coming storm or too scared to leave their family, pets, or belongings behind. There were looters running rampant on the streets causing all sorts of mayhem while everyone else just trying to survive. The people that couldn't help themselves pleaded out to others for rescue only to be met with a delayed reaction from the government. FEMA rescue workers were blamed for their slow response and inability to effectively manage, care for and move those trying to leave the city. Now, only about five years later, the city has once again spread back into despair and chaos far worse than anyone could have ever imagined.

NAME: Russell J. MacReady

AGE: 37

NATIONALITY: New Orleans, Louisiana

RACE: Caucasian

SKILLS: His time working with FEMA has given him experience in organizing people, managing supplies, light search and rescue, fire safety, and some medical training.

WEAPONRY: Beretta M9 and a Fire Axe

VEHICLE: [To Be Determined]

BIOGRAPHY: Russell J. MacReady is a former FEMA rescue worker with two kids and an ex-wife. Russell met his ex-wife, Emily, in high school and decided to marry her soon after the birth of their daughter, Murphy. Two years later, Emily gave birth to their son, Michael. As time went on, Emily became a doctor working for Children's Hospital in New Orleans while Russell underwent FEMA's Urban Search & Rescue Training. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf coast resulting in the deaths of more than 1,800 people as well as $108 Billion in property damage.

After being blamed and mistreated by the public for the actions of the government, Russell decided to quit FEMA and ended up working as a volunteer firefighter and dollar store clerk. Eventually, Emily filed for a divorce claiming that she and Russell had just "grown apart." Although Russell was initially unhappy with her decision, he came to the conclusion that it probably was the best option for the children. In 2008, Emily remarried to another man despite her daughter's disapproval.

Three weeks after the initial infection, Russell and his family finds themselves in a small group of survivors, with little to no information on what this plague is, as they plan to take refuge at the Super Dome.

Re: The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

Post by Fi Skirata on Mon Apr 13, 2015 9:52 pm

NAME: Wayne Torres

AGE: 31

NATIONALITY: Kinder, Louisiana

RACE: Caucasian

SKILLS: A rough childhood and time in prison have given him basic survival skills from cooking and dirty first aid, to how to fight and shoot a gun.

WEAPONRY: Benelli M3 shotgun, Stungun, Folding riot baton.

VEHICLE: N/A?

BIOGRAPHY: Wayne had a rough upbringing, his father ran out on their family and he was left to be raised by a negligent mother. It was put on Wayne to basically raise both himself and his younger sister, Isabella. Wayne grew up with a bad crowd. Thieves and street toughs. Luckily someone noticed him before the police did. Wayne was brought on as a "private security contractor" for the Coushatta Casino Resort.

Which is a fancy way of saying "beats the shit out of people who cheat at cards". Wayne wasn't known for restraining himself very well and after several years on the job, he beat a con to death with a bat. The Casino refused to afford him a decent lawyer, and Torres was sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter, to be served at Allen Correctional Center.

Wayne was a trustee by the time of the initial infection, and when his group of convict workers was attacked, he made a break for it immediately. Wayne scavenged a fallen police officers clothing and equipment and spent the past three weeks searching for his sister, passing as an officer of the law.

If you want to be insane that's completely fine by me. Just keep mind this RP will start three weeks into the apocalypse. So it's best to start out normal and slowly go insane as time goes on. I plan to divide the RP into episodes, so you should expect significant skips in time at some point.

Re: The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

Post by Syagrius on Wed Apr 15, 2015 1:43 am

NAME: Lt. Col. Jacob Rothschild-Duvalier.

AGE: 48.

NATIONALITY: A'murican. Specifically Fredricksburg, Texas, though his family had been there since it had been a part of Mexico. Before that, they had lived in Alabama, the family having come over as some of the first English colonists to arrive in the New World.

RACE: Caucasian.

SKILLS: Rothschild was always more of a political player than an actual military man, and this shows in his actions during the apocalypse. Despite most of his unit dying, and the social collapse caused by the outbreak, he managed to keep what few men he had in line, and establish a survivor's colony known as The Remnant. Aside from his skilled political maneuvering and high natural intelligence, Rothschild also went through all of the rigourous training that's required to be in the United States' Army. He has tried and practiced tactical and strategic knowledge, and, if need be, he is a decent shot.

WEAPONRY: Rothschild himself owns and consistently carries a Beretta M9 and keeps a single spare magazine with him at all times. In situations that he knows he'll be facing combat, he equips himself with one of his stockpiled Mossberg 590A1, and an Aluminum Baseball Bat he has affectionately named "Champ", with the name 'Christina' scrawled on the shaft.

VEHICLE: He doesn't have one himself.

BIOGRAPHY: Okay. You know me. I can't do brief biographies, but I'll try. Jacob David Rothschild-Duvalier was born in 1966 to a family of rich oil tycoons and military men from Fredricksburg, Texas. His father had spent his entire adult life in the military, and his mother was the daughter of a wealthy oilman. He was the eldest of six, and thus was given the most attention of all of his siblings.  He was sent to a private school in the Eastern Texas, where he aced most of his tests in the early years.

As he grew older and got into Middle School, Jacob ran into trouble has he became increasingly homesick, and fell into a shady crowd at his school, eventually being tossed out due to fighting too much. He returned to his hometown, where, shamed, he attended the local public school, getting average marks, but developing a cigarette problem by fourteen. At sixteen, in an attempt to straighten his son out, Jacob's father sent him to military school, which would begin to shape his personality permanently.

Angered that his family would so readily abandon him, he began exhibiting sociopathic tendencies as he manipulated a number of other members of the boarding school to do what he wanted them to. He excelled in military school, not for his physical prowess or his particularly strong grades, but because of his strong leadership capabilities. Upon graduating from military school, he applied and was accepted to Westpoint.

At Westpoint his leadership abilities only grew, and Jacob was driven to succeed only due to his desire to surpass his father, who, up to this point in his life, had only seen Jacob as a failure of a first son. He began serving in the United States Army upon his graduation as a Lieutenant, where he quickly gained a reputation as an effective, if unfeeling leader. In 1998, he married his wife Alexandra, with whom they had their first and only child, a daughter, Christina, in 1999.

After taking some time off, he served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, though his service record was nothing special, yet still rose through the ranks due to the legacy of his father and his skilled political eminence.

In 2008, he was picked to be a commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he and his family relocated to. During the initial outbreak, Jacob's brigade was assigned to civilian defense and evacuation in DeRidder. As few people passed through the area, most of them heading to New Orleans, the 4th didn't see too much combat until things began getting really out of hand. Three weeks in, the 4th was reassigned to "Extermination" in the Jefferson Parish. Due to poor tactical planning on the up-and-up's part, the 4th witnessed extreme, nearly total casualties within half a week.

After the CO of the brigade was infected, Rothschild became the official leader of the Brigade, and after going nearly 72 hours without receiving an order from the top, Rothschild ordered the few men that he had left to retreat out of Jefferson, having lost nearly 98% of the unit. Regrouping and bivouacking in the land between DeRidder and Jefferson Parish, Rothschild began organizing "The Remnant". As he began to stabilize things, and draw survivors in, he made increasingly desperate sorties to find his wife and daughter, who had disappeared from their home shortly after the 4th Brigade was deployed to Jefferson Parish. His wish to find his family had finally come true in the most gruesome of ways.

Outside of DeRidder lay a small camp that had been long overrun by the Dead. It had apparently been home to a certain type of nasty survivor, as they had apparently tied certain people down, probably captives, including Jacob's wife, in an attempt to distract the dead long enough to escape if ever overrun. As the dead gorged on her mother, Christina tried to escape with the other free survivors, but was bitten on the ankle, hiding in one of the survivor's cars before succumbing to the fever. After clearing the camp, Jacob put her down personally.

This event greatly traumatized the Lt. Col, and afterwards his personality seemed more detached from reality, less emotional and feeling, and more cold, and calculated, most likely from a combination of Shell Shock and a psychotic break. However, years of diplomatic training and restraint allowed him, for the most part, to be able to hide this from the survivors that he had managed to husband into a coherent group. Despite his facade, he is still a psychologically shattered person, and his tactical and strategic moves are really only habit from his officer training.

APPEARANCE: Ya, without the hat though. He's around 6'4, and weighs 270 pounds, though that's gone down a bit due to his diminishing nutrition.

Re: The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

NAME: Richard Stryker, goes by his last name

AGE: 27

NATIONALITY: American (born and raised in the "shitty part" of Hartford, Connecticut)

RACE: Caucasian

SKILLS: Stryker has close-quarters combat skills gained from his time in prison - this added together with his large stature and intense workout regimen make him a force to be reckoned with. Also from his time spent in prison and criminal career as a burglar, Stryker has learned how to hot-wire cars, pick almost all common locks, break open doors, and the value of stealth and patience.

WEAPONRY: One pair of brass knuckles (looted from a pawn shop). One Model 870 Remington shotgun (stolen from the corpse of a SWAT officer).

VEHICLE: None.

BIOGRAPHY: Richard Stryker grew up in the home of an abusive drunk father who routinely beat him and his loving mother. At age 16, after suffering years of abuse and watching his mother suffer the same abuse, Stryker saw his mother endure a particularly brutal beating. Stryker spent the next two months building up his body and pursuing an extreme workout routine - he even dropped out of school to spend more time working himself to exhaustion everyday. The next time that his father started to beat his mother, Stryker intervened and wrestled his father to the ground. His mother was unable to pull Stryker off as he strangled his father to death. The police found him there sometime later - hands still clasped around his father's neck with an almost shell-shocked expression plastered on his face.

Because of his age and the testimony from him, his mother, and several other witnesses that declared his father to be an abusive drunk, the courts were lenient and sentence Stryker to one year at a youth detention center and five years in a federal prison. His mother died of natural causes sometime after his sentence. Stryker experienced a bit of a growth spurt while in Juvie and ended up becoming one of the tallest people in the federal prison that he was transferred to after the first year. As such, Stryker had to fight an almost endless line of people that wanted to go head to head with one of the biggest inmates.

He wasn't without friends, however, and during the last few months of his sentence, Stryker met a guy named Steve Maynard - the two quickly hit it off. The man was serving a short sentence for petty theft in Connecticut, but he was actually from Louisiana and had only come to the northern state to sell some "alternatively acquired items" to a high-paying customer. Since Stryker had no home to go back to and Steve was being released around the same time that he was, Steve invited Stryker to join up with him when he was released.

When Stryker was 22, he was released from prison. Stryker moved to New Orleans with Steve and spent the next five years working with him and the rest of his crew of thieves and burglars. They stole from the homes of the affluent and wealthy and even from an art gallery once.

When the plague hit, the whole city went wild. It was Katrina all over again. Stryker and Steve's crew immediately took advantage of the situation and started to loot and rob places in broad daylight. The situation became worse and worse and other looters joined up with them simply to survive. Currently, Stryker's group numbers slightly more than a dozen, and they are all holed up in the top floor of an apartment building near Bourbon Street.

APPEARANCE: Click here. Stryker is a hulking 6'8" and weighs 220 lbs of mostly muscle. He has green eyes and dark, short hair. He also has a sleeve tattoo on his right arm (Click here).

Re: The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

Post by Thade on Sun Jul 05, 2015 8:04 pm

NAME: Thomas Rynning

AGE: 44

NATIONALITY: Born in Beloit Wisconsin, moved to Yucca Arizona.

RACE: Caucasian

SKILLS: Good shot with a rifle, can pilot most small aircraft with minimal crashing, and is by no means weak nor an idiot.

WEAPONRY:  Winchester Model 94 lever action rifle, hunting knife, and whatever he can find.

VEHICLE: Small 4 seater plane. (Out of fuel.)

BIOGRAPHY: Thomas Rynning is a quiet man.  He was born into a quiet family, in a quiet Midwestern paradise.  His father was a mortician, well respected and liked in the community.  His mother, a secretary for one of the largest banking firms in the state.  His only sibling, a young man three years his senior with an affinity for girls and stirring trouble whenever possible.  Rynning himself had little to do with his brother.

His brother never stopped his reckless behavior, habitually getting into fights and ending up in prison.  When Thomas was seventeen, his brother went too far.  He got into a fight with Thomas' best friend over a pretty girl, and as the younger boy's head hit the pavement, the older Rynning brother had sealed his fate.  Convicted of second degree murder with the possibility of parole in fifteen years time.

The conviction tore the relatively quiet family apart.  Divorce ensued, with Thomas caught in the middle.  Upon his graduation from highschool, he moved quickly across the country to the southwestern desert to escape his now toxic family.  He obtained his pilot's license and made a life for himself, avoiding all contact with anything or anyone from his past life.

The years passed quickly and the quiet boy aged even quicker, the desert sun wrinkling his face and hardening his physique.  He kept to himself, letting the mystery grow around him without much thought.  Finding himself totally alone, he acquired a cat, an orange tabby, and a few guns to ward off coyotes, thieves, and other such vermin.  His few vacations, he toured the world, learning all he could. For a few more years he continued to live his life as a freelance pilot in the middle of a great desert, and when the apocalypse finally arrived in his small and isolated town, he took rifle and cat in hand and flew east in his small plane, running out of gas somewhere near New Orleans and landing on a relatively clear stretch of highway.

APPEARANCE: Clickity 6'0", 188 lbs.

There.  I finally got around to it.

Re: The Walking Dead: The Survivor Stories

Post by Megantron on Mon Jul 06, 2015 3:21 pm

NAME: Trina Bohorquez

AGE: 24

NATIONALITY: 2nd generation American (Family originally from Colombia). Lived in Panama City, Florida.

RACE: Mix - Caucasian/Hispanic

SKILLS: Knows how to cook, basic first aid, and how to sew/knit/make clothes and fabrics. Isn't the brightest (other than when it comes to budgeting/finances), but quick on her feet. Is able to have children.

WEAPONRY: Uses whatever she can find. Is not very knowledgeable on guns so would not be able to tell you types.

VEHICLE: Did own a 1998 Dodge Neon, but had to abandon it.

BIOGRAPHY: Trina is a child born from an Hispanic father and Caucasian mother. Her mother had never been in the picture and her father was always working, so Trina was mostly raised by her grandmothers who taught her how to be a proper Spanish girl so that one day she would be a good wife to a wealthy Spanish man and have many babies.

Her grandmothers got one of their wishes, as Trina had a baby at 16 in classic teen mom scenario. When she became initially pregnant and her family found out, they told her she had to either marry the father of her unborn child or she would be dead to them as having a child born out of wedlock was a sin.

The father at the time was a much older (and already married) man who wanted nothing to do with Trina or their child to-be, leaving Trina to be abandoned by her family. Trina did the next best thing and threatened to expose the father's adultery by blackmailing him out of a monthly allowance in order to keep her mouth shut. He obliged to giving her $2,000.00 a month (he was handsomely wealthy and could afford this) as long as she never told anyone he was the father.

Trina dropped out of high school once the baby was born and named him Cole. After a couple years of living off her allowance without much luck of finding a suitable career (especially without an education), she asked the father for a job in exchange for a higher allowance. He agreed to give her a housekeeping position and raised to $3,000.00/month. Their affair continued due to the close proximity and eventually, the wife found out and had her fired. The father had no reason to pay her to be quiet anymore so Trina was left unemployed with no source of income, raising a kid all by herself.

With nothing left to keep her, Trina decided to move out west. She--and Cole, now almost 8 years old--packed up the essentials and left Florida behind. They eventually were stranded in New Orleans as their car (the Dodge Neon) finally broke down. To fix it would cost much more money than it was worth, so they left it abandoned... and that's when the breakout occurred.

I don't care too much at the moment. There should be plenty of places to find supplies. The beginning of the RP will be a lot of resource gathering, determining a base/safehouse for the group, and a bunch of run-ins with zombies and random survivors.
