I'd like an occult RP in the style of Call of Cthulhu or something, but I'm completely incapable of running such.

I've been floating around an idea for a classic fantasy setting RP, where a group of characters are looking for a tower that grants anyone who can climb all the way up it a single wish, and it's filled with monsters and such.

I like the Cthulhu idea a lot. Lovecraft is great. I've personally never been much of one for high fantasy type stuff though.

The problem with the Lovecraftian idea is that as much as I adore Lovecraft and horror, I can't write it for shit. But I really wanna play in it. I guess the idea is up for adoption.

And I know you aren't into the Fantasy scene, but there are those that are. We lack fantasy RP's.

I wouldn't quite know where to start. What would the plot be about? Who would the player characters be? Where would it even take place?

Typical Call of Cthulhu style usually places the characters as nobodies. Professors, college students, retail workers, etc. Just people who happen to be in the area, and are usually only tenuously related until the weirdness brings them together.

As for a plot, uh. That would be on you. These things are usually at least a little investigatorial in theme. Couldn't really go wrong with X group tries to bring Y elder god into the realm.

I wish I cared more about Lovecraftian things. Or had more of an expertise on it. Maybe I'll play more Consuming Shadow or read the Lovecraft wiki for inspiration.

I suggest reading a few of his stories just to get a feel for it. They're all pretty good and fairly short, and you can probably find them online for free.

EDIT: Also this video (click) is a must watch. It explains my problems with most modern Lovecraft stuff and thus what I'm planning on doing differently for this RP.
