New Angeles: City of Devils

Congratulations, you're on the force. Not only that, you're a detective. How the hell did you manage that? Well, the good news is the pay is outstanding, bad news is you live in the second most crime-ridden city in the country. Don't worry, Detroit is still the worst. Anyways, welcome to the New Angeles Police Department.

Now, you've been doing your job for a while, and you've actually gotten quite good at it. Unfortunately, this city is beginning to fester like a volcanic boil just waiting to explode. Calls are coming in like crazy lately, people are going missing, buildings have been torched, and there are signs of new drug being passed around the streets. Frankly, the entire PD has turned into a tornado of confusion and frustrated anger. Everyone is being overworked, the yelling is almost non-stop, and your desk is stacking up with unsolved case files. Honestly, it's not a good year for you.

With the station as it is, the chief is demanding you close some cases, and soon, because if nothing changes within a month then there's going to be some layoffs. Well, what are you waiting for? Get out there and raise some lumps!

Alright, with that out of the way, let me explain this more clearly. This is a dice-based detective role-playing game. You will be required to roll to investigate, interrogate witnesses and suspects, and combat. This means, you can fuck up. Big time. Probably even get yourselves killed. Try not to do that. Now, you will all be given partners, and I suggest you rely on them for help, because in many cases they may be the only one that can save you.

I will give advantages to certain detectives when it comes to investigating crimes related to your particular field. For example, Arson will know more about fire damage, Vice will know more about drugs, and Missing Persons might have a better intuition that everyone else. By "better intuition," I mean they're less likely to miss evidence than anyone else.

Name: Galissa "Lissa" Walker

Background: 
All her life, Lissa had dreamed of some day serving on the force. After the loss of her childhood friend--Remy Tillerson, to a drunk driving incident that went unpunished--she vowed to herself that she would do all within her power to make sure justice is served. With her newfound sense of purpose, Lissa strove to be the best in everything. Top of her class at the Academy, it's no wonder she was instantly hired after graduating.

Now, being one of the only women on the force--on top of being short, young, and naive--Lissa has a lot to prove to her veteran co-workers. With the amount of unsolved cases stacked high and only growing each day, the higher-ups are breathing down the necks of their detectives for some convictions. Not wanting to be outdone by the rookie detective, Lissa is thrown into Arson, with only a 15% conviction rate.

Personality: 
Bright-eyed and naive. Lissa can sometimes be too trusting of others, which is both a blessing and a curse. She sometimes comes off as a know-it-all, but usually ends up winning over others with her benevolence and generosity. She will always put others before herself, even if it will hurt her in the end. Growing up with an interesting family dynamic, Lissa is more accepting of others and their lifestyles and isn't so quick to judge.

Background: Cheery guy that cares deeply for his friends, Lee grew up in a reasonable Catholic home with his Chinese mother and Caucasian father. He likes classic rock and swing jazz. Lee is very protective over his friends and tiny Pomeranian dog, Scamp. He loves rainy nights and going to diners.

He brought on a street rat named Luka as his protégé and put him on the force as a beat cop, and they became fast friends. Lee cares for Luka greatly and as a way to help him sustain himself while he takes care of his niece, Lee became a bit corrupted to bring in extra cash flow. He, of course, doesn't mind the extra money himself but also feels bad whenever he has to hurt others. He used the money to get himself and Luka a decent place to stay, whenever Luka decides to leave his shithole house that is. Lee's parents treat Luka as a son and always make sure to include him in the holiday gift giving. Lee and Luka go to Lee's parents every Sunday for family dinner.

Background:
 College drop out and general good for nothing, Luka spent years on the streets and couch hopping, not much caring where he wound up. When his niece was orphaned, it was the boot in the ass the Irishman needed to get his life together.

A friendly cop named Lee helped him get on as a beat cop, and took him under his wing, with some genuine hard work and a bit of nepotism, Luka made it to Vice desk, with Lee as his long time partner. Luka's grown too used to the cop life, and indulges in a bit of casual corruption to keep the cash flowing to support his niece, while he spends most nights on Lee's couch.

Background: An orphan and problem child, Isaac spent the majority of his childhood running away from foster homes only to be caught to then run away once more. He managed to stay put in the home of an older Jewish couple just long enough to feel comfortable calling them "Ma and Pa" before running away one last time. 

As a young adolescent living on the streets with no real goal or purpose, Isaac decided he would try to get his life together. A hard job, some money saved up here and there, and the young man was ready to try his hand at college. This proved more trouble than it was worth. Law majors were insane. 

Taking what little experience he had garnered from his time at New Angeles University, he managed to land a stable job as a patrol officer. It did not take very long after that for him to be promoted to the Arson Desk which has since ended up being his own personal glass ceiling.

Background: Born to a working class family, he joined the force as soon as he turned 18 as a way to escape his impoverished home life. He made his way up the chain of command from a lowly recruit to a respected detective at the Missing Persons Desk. Despite numerous opportunities, he turns down any offered promotions to other Desks or higher positions. His stoic devotion to his cases is well known throughout the NAPD, as is his cynicism and low tolerance for bullshit of any kind.

He never married, any attempt to hold down a relationship failed due to his devotion to his work and tendencies to neglect personal relationships, paying rent, sleeping, and eating in favor of his job.
