Religion: Title-is-too-short edition.

What's your religion? What are your opinions on religion?

I am an agnostic atheist and largely anti-religious.

Pro-religion. Raised in a Christian Baptist family, but was annoyed by inconsistancies in the religion that people poorly explained to me. Briefly a Hermetic, not sure what to call myself now. I'm pretty convinced that closest thing there is to a "god" is myself.

Hm. Pantheism, in the way Dawkins describes it. I used to be really super mega anti-religion. Euphoric fedora tipping, etc. etc. Then I just stopped caring about it at all.

I would stop caring about it all, if it weren't for the obvious negative effects that fairy tales hold on society.

I also stopped caring about society. I'm perfectly content among my books and what not. Society can tear itself apart and my only grievance will be an increase in my rent. Don't get me wrong, I can see the harm religion does. But I don't care as much as I perhaps should.

Your mistake is watching the news in the first place. If you really want to know whats going in in the world, read the New Yorker or some other well written journalistic source. I can't stand the talking heads.

I get most of my news from The Daily Show, The Nightly Show, The Young Turks, and Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver. XD

I watch The Daily Show and Jon Oliver from time to time. Colbert was alright, but that's over now.

You should check out The Nightly Show. I love political shows with panels.

I might. I don't watch a ton of TV, but I'll look into it.

I also watch Maher's show.

Meh. He's a little much for me. Horseshoe theory and all that.

The only problem I have with him is that I believe he is more aligned with Israel than Palestine and he has been accused of being an anti-vaccer. He claims that most vaccines are good, but flu shots are quote "bullshit."

To be fair, flu vaccines are a lot of guesswork. They help prevent a certain strain, but if the scientists guess wrong and it mutates in a way they didn't account for, the shot is worthless against that strain entirely.

I get that, yeah.

So he isn't entirely wrong. 'Bullshit' may be an exaggeration though. My main problem is that he's just as full of himself as any other talking head. Certainly he maintains some humility and self awareness, but he's still a bit of a pundit. Just one on the opposite side.

Ah, well, most television personalities are self-absorbed, but I haven't really notice that with Bill Maher.

He isn't self absorbed, per se, so much as he is narrow minded in his own way. He's just so sure of himself, and that his opinions are fact. I don't hate the guy, and I'm sure he's nice in person, but he seems a tad arrogant.

Ah, well, I can accept that opinion, sure.

I have nothing against him personally, and he definitely has some smart things to say, but arrogance is something I can't stand to listen to.

The thing I like most about his show is his panel format, which is why I suggest you watch The Nightly Show since it has almost the exact same format.

I'll give it a shot.  But I find myself caring less and less about politics as time goes on.  And did you hear?  Jon Stewart is leaving.
