RP Brainstorming General

Despite my belief that we should work on the RPs we already have, I think a thread for general brainstorming would be incredibly useful. Any vague ideas for universes you want to do an RP in, fleshing out of ideas, community opinions, all that kind of stuff.

Yeah, pretty much why I created this thread.

Nex and I played out an SCP RP back in NationStates. We never got too far into it and the plot was kind of everywhere. Also, an anthro furry decided to make a character in it for some reason. And he managed to play it off as the furry just being a guy that got surgery to look like he did instead of being an SCP which might have made the charade the least bit tolerable.

...Huh. Well I'm not a furry, so I think we're safe.

Yeah, other than that it was pretty fun and I wouldn't mind starting and playing in another one.

I had the idea that it could take place in the early days of the Foundation, so everything isn't bound down by the amount of regulations put in place in universe, and so capturing SCPs already written about could be a main thing. Or we could do something with the Church or AWCY or other groups of interest.

I kinda want to make a murder mystery RP in which everyone plays detectives or private investigators searching for a serial killer or maybe even a cult of murderers. The RP would require quite a bit of detail in setting up the crime scenes, realistic methods of investigation, and the killer's identity would have to be kept concealed throughout the a long portion of the RP to make it more entertaining and mysterious for the players.

Preferably, I'd like the all the characters working in the same building while investigating the case, because I want quite a bit of character interaction.

For inspiration I'm thinking of movies/TV shows/video games like Heavy Rain, True Detective Season 1, Zodiac, Memories of Murder, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Etc.

Any interest?

Above is the OOC that I had made for an SCP RP a long time ago when I was on NationStates. I don't know if the idea is good anymore but anyone can look at it for inspiration.

I really like the murder mystery thing. Although Fountain is right, it may do better after we finish up CrimCon. I'd still join though. Dibs on the film noir, hardboiled PI.

As for that SCP OOC, I like it, but I'm not sure about such a clear and cut dichotomy. However part of what I love about the SCP Foundation is the lack of a clear and consistent canon, which means we can basically do whatever we want as long as it's within reason.

You're right. I thought the whole Red vs Blue dynamic would make for a good foundation for an RP, but looking back, I'm iffy about it. I did always think that a faction of do-gooders might arise within the Foundation at some point though.

Nex, If you're so on board for an RP about detectives getting more stressed out over time with shitloads of character interaction, join the Tokyo Ghoul RP. What you are describing is the whole point of that RP.

PITCH TIME:

Imagine if all of your favorite fairy tale characters were locked up in a 1950's style asylum (that means practices of lobotomy, electric shock therapy, etc. were commonly used). Now imagine if one of them was going around and committing murders.

Basically, my idea is that this will be a murder mystery type RP. I will be the one leading it and will have all the information. One of you will play the killer, but to keep everyone else in the dark, you will PM me what you want to happen (i.e. who you want to kill).

This will be like the card game Mafia (AKA Werewolf) if you are familiar with it where each night, "the killer" chooses who they want to kill or if they don't want to kill anyone.

It is up to the rest of the players to try and figure out who the killer is.

Whoever is interested in being the killer, would have to PM me and it will be first come, first serve.

Each character will have to come from some fictional story of fairy tale-esque quality (which means it can either be a classic fairy tale, or something like from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, etc. probably look at Disney characters for best examples)

Characters can either be patients with a psychological problem (i.e. Cinderella has Alzheimer's because she's always forgetting her shoes; Snow White has narcolepsy because she's always randomly falling asleep; or Pinocchio is a compulsive liar) OR the character can be a doctor/nurse/janitor/someone who works at the asylum.

Whoever would want to be the killer, it would be beneficial to make multiple characters and not tell me which of your characters is the killer so I'm kept out of the dark, too.

I don't know. Lemme know what you guys think if this is a good idea.

I sort of drew from The Wolf Among Us and Alice: Madness Returns plus that other asylum RP that never happened.

Hm. I'm all for a murder mystery RP, but I'm uncertain about being required to write an already written character, even if it's from a fairy tale.

It would be your twist on it. Doesn't have to follow their original story.

Like in the Alice: Madness Returns game, they completely changed Alice's backstory to where her parents and sister died in a house fire and she was committed to an asylum because they thought she did. She went mad and imagined up wonderland in her head.

Names can be changed to be made more modernized like in The Wolf Among Us, the big bad wolf is named Bigby Wolf and he's the town's sherrif rather than just a wolf that eats little girls and pigs.

I like the idea, Megan. I'd probably be up for it. I think it'd be fun to put our own spin on classic fairy tale/myth/legend.

I'm still butthurt about the old asylum RP not happening, and I'm a huge The Wolf Among Us fan, and I like the Alice games you mentioned. So I'm all for this, seems like a great idea.

Yeah, he's dead or gone. I don't think he's coming back.

Last post was in April, so yeah. He's gone.

On a side note I've decided I want a western RP.
